There is a lot of
confusion among students whether to go for a subject-wise coaching class which
has a particular subject focused approach and faculty who specializes in only
one subject of their own or to go for big coaching centers which have
full-fledged time-table and teachers in place to teach you according to your
batch, time and constant review tests are performed.
Well, to be honest
both have their advantages and disadvantages, and therefore, I would suggest
you to choose according to your efforts, convenience, budget and the timeline
in which you plan to complete the course.
Full-Fledged or Standardized Coaching Centers – A full fledged or standardized coaching
centers are big coaching centers like Bansal Classes, Vibrant Academy,
Resonance and several others who have set-up a definite system and cater to all
subject needs. These coaching centers produce some of the top results in the
competitive exams like JEE and have highly qualified teachers who have an
experience in teaching for a long, long time. They have spent decades training
students who make it to the top ranks in competitive exams.
Advantages:
1)
Proper
systematic set-up
2)
The goals
and targets of each class is defined. Hence, course completion well within
time.
3)
All
subjects are taken care of at one place. Hence, saves a lot of time.
4)
Constant
tests and discussion.
5)
High
competition. Hence, students try to be more competitive.
Disadvantages:
1)
Batch
shuffling takes place often. Hence, teachers get changed again and again.
Sometimes, breaks the tone of studies and understanding.
2)
Number of
students are high. Hence, focused attention or progress tracking is not the
very best.
3)
Doubt
clearing may be a problem considering that there are so many students and
limited time.
4)
Faculty
members leave towards the end of the session sometimes. Disturbs the students
sometimes.
Subject-wise Coaching Centers – A subject-wise coaching center consists of
coachings having a particular faculty specializing in one particular subject
(say Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology). These faculty members are the
best in their particular subject and command it. The attention received in such
coaching centers with respect to clearing the concept in those subject and
doubts, is usually high. However, it does cost you on travelling time and going
to other coaching centers for other subjects.
Advantages:
1)
Same faculty teaches the entire subject.
Hence, there is a continuity and understanding developed.
2)
Less
number of students. Therefore, more focus on every student.
3)
Better
doubt clearing and problem solving.
4)
Faculty
members work harder on you. Because if you succeed, they do too. Hence, they
dedicate a lot of time and efforts on you.
Disadvantages:
1)
The set-up
is systematic in one way, chaotic in the other. You have to manage time for
particular coaching classes.
2)
Sometimes,
the course extends outside the completion deadline.
3)
You take a
particular class at one place. It takes time to shuffle between places for
different classes.
4)
Competition
is a little less due to low strength.
Both the standardized
coaching centers and subject-wise coachings have their advantages and
disadvantages. However, you need to choose between either of the two. I would
strictly advice to not go for both of them. Whichever is suitable, go for one
of these. If you take both, a standardized coaching center(which has all PCM)
and then take another for Chemistry, you would end up juggling with your
classes and time, leaving very little time for self-study.
